Here's how to Set Up Password Security with Solid Print PDF Solid Print PDF converts output from any Windows program into a PDF file. You can add security settings to the PDF file that will restrict access and editing. For example, you can require the PDF user to enter a password to open the document, or an owner password that will restrict printing, editing, and extraction of content from the document.

Note: Owner password may not be available if you are creating a PDF that can be viewed with earlier editions of Adobe Reader.

Step 1

Open Solid Print PDF
Open Solid Print PDF by selecting File|Print from the menu of your Windows program. Then, on the Name menu, select Solid Print PDF and click OK. The Solid Print PDF dialog opens. Image:Spp_1_a.png

Step 2

Select PDF and Open Security Dialog
In the Select Output window, click the PDF File icon, then click the Output Setup button. Click the Security tab to display security options. Image:Spp_1_b.png

Step 3

Select Encryption Level
The Encryption Level controls which versions of Acrobat Reader will be able to view your PDF file and whether or not you can use the password features. Select either Low (40-bit RC4) or High (128-bit RC4) from the drop-down list. Image:Spp_1_c.png

Step 4

Set a Password for Opening Document
If you want the user to enter a password before they can view your PDF document, select the Require user password to open document check box. You can then type a User Password in the box. Type the same password again in the Repeat User Password box; this ensures that your password is typed correctly. Image:Spp_1_d.png

Step 5

Set a Password for Changing Document and Document Change Options
If you want to enter a password to restrict access for changing the document, select the Use owner password to restrict printing, editing, and extraction check box. You can then type an Owner Password in the box. Type the same password again in the Repeat Owner Password box; this ensures that your password is typed correctly. Select the check boxes for the access you want to allow – printing, editing of contents, content copying and extraction, and/or adding or editing of comments. Image:Spp_1_e.png

Step 6

Complete Settings and Print PDF
When you are through with making changes in Output Setup, click OK. To save the PDF, click the Save button. Image:Spp_1_f.png
