Have you lost all of the music on your computer but still have it on your iPod? Did you know iTunes can recover it for you? Well it can!

Step 1

Open your iTunes Music Player.

Step 2

Connect your iPod to the computer and stop it from syncing if it starts automatically.

Step 3

Click on Start->My Computer to open an Explorer window.

Step 4

Click Tools->Folder Options->View->Show Hidden Files and Folder on the Explorer window.

Step 5

Look for your iPod in the My Computer window it may say something like "Bob's iPod (E:)"

Step 6

Double click the iPod in the My Computer window and navigate to iPod_Control and then Music

Step 7

Select everything in the folder: Edit->Select All

Step 8

Drag the selected files in to iTunes

Step 9

iTunes will now import all of the music back to the computer, you can sort the files however you wish.

Step 10

Disable the viewing of hidden folders and you're done!

Tips

  • Some songs may loose their rating, genre, title, artist, or album depending on the file type - be prepared to categorize your music all over again.

Warnings

  • This is not intended for copying music from a friends iPod, this is to recover your music you yourself have purchased and placed on your own iPod under the terms of fair use.

Things You'll Need

  • An Apple iPod
  • Computer with Microsoft Windows
  • The latest version of iTunes
