Having trouble hooking your bra? Find the best technique for you in this wikiHow.

On the front

  1. Hold both ends of the bra (where the clasps are), one in each hand.
  2. Move the bra over your head and behind your back without letting go of the ends.
    • Make sure the inside of the bra is the side touching your skin, and that the bra is the right side up. It should look as if you are wearing the bra back to front.
  3. Hook the bra on the right clasp, adjusting for the circumference of your chest just below your breasts.
  4. Turn the bra around until the cups are over your breasts.
  5. Put your arms inside the strap loops so that the straps are over your shoulders as they should be.
    • For this, you might need to push the bra a bit lower on your chest; you should pull it back up in place afterwards.
  6. Use your hands to push your breasts right into place so that they fit comfortably in the cups.
  7. Adjust the length of the straps.

On the back

  1. Put your arms into the strap loops and pull the straps on your shoulders.
    • Make sure the inside of the bra is the side touching your skin.
  2. Hold both ends of the bra (where the claps are) tightly and pull them around towards your back.
    • For bras with multiple clasps (to adjust for the circumference of your chest), put your thumb over the right clasp so you'll find it easier when it's behind your back.
  3. Hook the bra. At first you might need to look in a mirror or maybe even use two mirrors, but soon you'll get the hang of it. Use your sense of touch to find your thumb that's over the right clasp. For double clasps, you might find it easier to hook one first, then the other (taking care not to unhook the first one in the process).
  4. Adjust your breasts so they they fit comfortably inside the cups.

Over the head

  1. Look at the bra, find the right clasp and hook it.
  2. Pull the bra over your head as if it were a tank top, taking care not to unhook the clasps (keeping it tight might help).
  3. Adjust the bra on yourself so that it fits comfortably.

Tips

  • Experiment with different types of clasps; some are easier to hook than others. A single hook-and-eye clasp is always easier to hook than a double one, although it tend to unhook itself more often when you pull your arms back or do other, similar movements.
  • Try bras with the clasp on the front, but beware: they might cause itching or even hurt your skin.
  • Try sport bras. They don't offer much support for medium- and large-sized breasts and they can't be discreetly work with certain kinds of tops or dresses, but for smaller breasts and under t-shirts or winter clothing, they can be really comfortable. Plus: they never unhook!
  • Practice the "on the back" method: it can be done without taking your clothes off, in case your bra unhooks itself at the wrong moment.

Warnings

  • The "over the head" method will most likely result in the bra unhooking itself before you can finish pulling it over your head.
