St. Anthony is known as a patron of the poor, and the patron saint of seekers of lost articles, travelers, and Portugal. The chaplet of St. Anthony has thirteen sets of three beads.

Step 1

Recite a specific prayer for each bead. There are three prayers, one for each bead. This is repeated thirteen times as there are thirteen sets of bead.

  • Bead one: "Our Father" Our Father, Who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.
  • Bead two: "Hail Mary" Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
  • Bead three: "Glory Be" Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Step 2

Recite the "Miraculous Responsory" when you reach the holy medal:

  • If you seek for miracles, Death, error, all calamities, The demons fly, and leprosy, And health succeeds infirmities. The sea obeys and fetters break, And lifeless limbs thou dost restore; Whilst treasures lost are found again, When young and old thine aid implore. All dangers vanish at thy prayer, The direst need doth quickly flee. Let those who know thy power proclaim, Let Paduans say these are of thee. The sea obeys and fetters break, And lifeless limbs thou dost restore; Whilst treasures lost are found again, When young and old thine aid implore. To Father, Son may glory be And Holy Ghost eternally. The sea obeys and fetters break, And lifeless limbs thou dost restore; Whilst treasures lost are found again, When young and old thine aid implore. V. Pray for us, blessed Anthony, R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Let us Pray O God, let the votive commemoration of Blessed Anthony, Thy confessor, be a source of joy in Thy Church, that she may always be fortified with spiritual assistance, and may deserve to possess eternal joy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
