The following information is about an online game called " Dark Orbit". "Dark Orbit" is an MORPG. This game is relatively unknown to most people, in fact most people just stumble upon this game by accident. The following information will help beginners with learning about what to do when you first get into the game and what everything does and what everything means. You can find this game at [www.darkorbit.com]. It is a free online game to a certain extent and you only need to pay for it if you want to upgrade your account to a "better" account, this "better" account comes with some advantages which you can check out on the website.
Step 1
This first section of information is just a general overview of the game.
Step 2
First go and earn some money (credits) which can be earned by destroying enemies, collecting rock asteroid materials and bonus boxes. When you destroy an enemy, some of its cargo is left behind, which you can collect and sell.
Step 3
Buy as much ammunition for your lasers and missiles as possible early on in the game if you can, because if you do this early you wont need to for a long time. (Which actually can be a relatively short amount of time if you use your lasers a lot).
Step 4
Know that when your honor goes into the negative it decreases the amount of credits you get from selling raw materials to your space station. Wheras the more honor you have, the more you can sell your resources for.
Step 5
Know where your teams space station is. (you start there and it is not easy to forget where it is.) it will be a giant Blue square
Step 6
There are three teams that you can join, the "Mars mining operations" (MMO), Earth Industrial Corperations (EIC), and "Venus Resources Unlimited" (VRU).
Step 7
Seek a resource called Uridium which is obtainable by picking up bonus boxes, completing quests and defeating enemies. This resource becomes useful when and if you are killed, to repair your damaged ship. Alternatively, you can buy a different ship or take the starter ship (phoenix) which is free.
Step 8
When you are in a ship that costs credits, always buy another one instead of paying 500 uridium to repair it.
Step 9
Uridium is also used to buy the top of the range items; ships, weapons, ammunition.
Step 10
Complete quests to gain bonus credits and Uridium.
Tips
- Remember to pay attention to your laser ammo. It can be difficult if you get caught in a firefight with no ammo or missiles especially if you are against multiple foes or one strong one.
- Do not think that buying the most expensive ammo is best. Stick to the 1x, 2x or 3x ammo otherwise you can end up with a lot of expensive shield absorbing level 5 ammo that isn't really capable of winning you a firefight, only depleating peoples shields.
- If at all possible try to keep a decent amount of missiles ready too because these do massive damage and can really turn the tides in a tough battle.
- There are three different kind of missiles but the first missile is adequate enough for most people for a while.
- Find a Good Clan, one that will help you get kills and increase your Experience points.
- Read the forums. There are lots of useful infomation threads and "howto's" available there. There is also a "Bible" that explains all you need to know about DO.
- Fed up of that music? or want to only see cargo boxes that you can pickup without losing honor points?
- At the top of the main screen, below the "Dark Orbit" logo, there is a blue light. click on this to reveal the settings menu. here you can turn off the music, sounds and other features.
- If you repair a ship, it costs valuable Uridium, and you then need to spend further time repairing its Hitpoints with a repair robot.
- Use a small ship, and add expensive items. If/when you get killed, you can then buy another ship with cheaper credits, but you don't lose your expensive items - they get transferred onto your new ship (however drones get damaged).
- Buy good shields. If you get attacked by another player this buys you time to run for cover.
- The first person to attack an enemy get's top priority on that enemy. When that enemy is destroyed, maybe by several players, that first person gets the reward, both credits and Uridium. They also get first option on the cargo.
- Don't steal other players booty. If another player destroys a ship, the cargo left in space is coloured blue, with a countdown timer. During this time you should let the other player collect that cargo. If you collect it first, you will get penalized honor points. After the timer expires the cargo turns orange, and is free for any player to pick up without penalty.
- When you have a Vengence or a Goliath ship, it is best to start buying the LF3 lasers first, then concentrate on the +10 speed engines, then the shields which cost 10000 uridium, then you will become Full Elite in no time.
Warnings
- When you look at your mini map there will be a little bar on the right side that is a sort of tan color, when this bar is above the bottom (filled at all) then you should go to a neutral zone until it goes back down. This bar means there is an enemy player in your sector they are usually a high level and if your new at the game will be able to kill you easily and usually go faster than you which makes running useless, basically, avoid enemy players at all costs.
- Many new players can mistake mines for a "special" bonus box, a bonus box is always an orange cube surrounded by a blue glow and spins, a mine is a round black ball with yellow dots that spins.
