These tips should help you decide on choosing a swimsuit that is just right for you. The most flattering style is one that fits you as close to your natural contours as possible - for your comfort level is what makes you appear attractive or not attractive.

Step 1

Shop with as few distractions as possible when choosing a swimsuit. Do not allow salespeople to decide what kind of bathing suit is you - unless you are having one custom made and tailored for you!

Step 2

Be comfortable in what you choose. Bathing suits are basically public underwear - so comfort and fit is just as important as when you are buying a bra or panties - even more so!

Step 3

The way that a suit "rides" your bottom is what you should pay the closest attention to when it comes to comfort and fit in the bottom portion.

  • To call attention to a large derrière - if you prefer to - (or to make yours appear larger and rounder) go for a cut that scoops in a "U" or "V" shape in the center at the lower back above the butt crack.
  • To minimize your butt - choose a style that cuts straight across - or is solid throughout the waist, and covers up to your bra (mid-back).
  • Make sure the suit covers the bottom portion of your buttocks completely - starting at the "crease" under your buttocks - even when you bend -(Unless you want a thong) because having the bottom of your butt hang out is unattractive and uncomfortable!

Step 4

Draw attention away from a large abdomen. Nothing is worse than seeing a woman who is voluptuous in her mid-section try to "sausage" herself into a suit that is too tight. A suit that flows from the rib cage to the hip (skirt style) will not appear matronly if it is paired with a v-cut bra to accentuate the breasts - and choosing a solid color with contrasting details on the "v" of the bra will also draw attention away from the mid-section.

Step 5

Get good fit in the bra portion. You should choose a suit to fit your breasts the same way you'd choose a bra.

  • V-bra lines accentuate a large breast - but make small breasts appear flat - unless they have very narrow straps - starting adjacent to the armpit.
  • Tube styles are actually more flattering to smaller breasts.
  • Too much padding in bras stays wet way longer and keeps your breasts cold and uncomfortable.

Step 6

Stretch it. In the dressing room, stretch and bend in the suit you are trying on - especially if you will be accompanying children to water and beach activities to assure that you can move comfortably in your suit without unexpected surprises. Comfort and fit is everything in a swimsuit!

Tips

  • One-piece suits that have less seams hold up better in chlorine.
  • If choosing a one piece the most important thing is that it fits your correctly in the torso - to avoid having the suit "ride up" when bending over (if the crotch length is too short) or slip off the shoulder (if it is too long).

Warnings

  • Thongs can cause hemorrhoids.
