Most of us want cute, unique hairstyles to wear at work or school. This article demonstrates some quick, fun ways to style your hair.

Coiffe, Fringe, or High Ponytail

  1. Comb your hair carefully to eliminate any tangles or knots.
  2. For a coiffe, gather up the front section of your hair/fringe and pin it up,leaving a slight bump on top of your head with bobby pins, clips, or sidecombs.
  3. For a fringe, straighten it and style until it stays in place.
  4. If you have sidebangs, part at the side and hold one back with a cute clip
  5. Pull up hair as high as you can with the desired effect.
  6. Pin up any loose bits of hair with clips or pins.
  7. Add a hair band or any accessory you would like.

Low Braids

  1. Part your hair in the middle or on the side. If you have a fringe, pin it back or leave it out.
  2. Braid one side of your hair and secure it with an elastic or ribbon. Repeat for the other side of your hair.
  3. If desired, add an accesorry such as a headband or colourful ribbon.

Messy Bun

  1. Gather your hair at the base of your neck.
  2. Twist and coil it around the middle, or add the elastic as usual, except on the last wrap around your hair, don't pull it all the way through.
  3. Secure with a clip or pin.

Low Ponytail

Wear your fringe out or loosely pinned back.

  1. Gather your hair at the nape of your neck with a bobble or elastic.
  2. Pull your hair back, and secure it with a ponytail. If desired, leave a bit of your hair hanging in front of you, around your eyes.
  3. Add a headband or other accessory (optional)

Pigtails

  1. Part your hair in the middle or to the side. Pin back fringe or leave out as you wish.
  2. Using a mirror, make two ponytails. They should be equal heights and distances on each side of your head. Experiment with different heights and see which looks best on you. Secure with elastic.
  3. If desired, add ribbons or other accessories.

Wearing Your Hair Down

Sometimes you just want to let your hair flow.

  1. If you want sultry waves, simply twist damp hair into two pigtail buns, and let air dry. Let it down, apply shine serum to your fingers, and twirl and scrunch you ringlets into their desired position.
  2. If you want glossy, smooth, and sleek straight hair, read on. Blow dry your wet hair with a paddle brush: Simply run a paddle brush through your locks while you blow dry. Once it is COMPLETELY dry, apply a lightweight shine/heat protectant spray to your hair. Then flatiron, possibly adding a cute flip at the ends by flicking the iron either out or in once you reach the end of your hair. Mist a light cloud of shine spray around your hair once finished.

Tips

  • Healthy hair is always best to work with. Use shampoo and conditioner as often as needed (every other day is generally how often you want to wash).
  • It is not always necessary to straighten or curl hair. You are beautiful the way you are, and in most updos, hair texture doesn't play that big of a role. Of course, natural textures can be improved with a bit of product (read below for recommended ones.
  • Hair product is not always the best thing (ex: mousse or gel). Light, airy styles are much cuter that crunchy stiff ones. Of course, a light shine spray on your dry ends or a volumizing lotion on your wet roots can make a style both easier to make and finish with prettier results.
  • Accessories can be great, but don't go overboard or you'll look like you were trapped in Claire's during an earthquake (and then rolled over twice).
  • Have fun and experiment! Play with your hair and you might find a style that is original and looks great on you!

Warnings

  • When straightening or curling hair, be careful around water and hot appliances.
  • Be cautious around hair products that may damage your eyes. Try not to inhale too much hairspray fumes.
  • When applying heat to hair, such as when styling with irons or blowing dry, use heat protector serum or spray to avoid damaging your hair.

Things You'll Need

  • Headbands, clips, bobby pins, hair elastics, etc.
  • Comb or brush, depending on hair texture and desired style.
  • Curling iron or hair straightener, if needed.
  • A lightweight hairspray (such as Dove), an aerosol or mist shine/protectant spray, a volumizing lotion for roots (such as Paul Mitchell)
  • Handheld mirror, in addition to wall mirror (to see the back of your hair as well as the front).
  • Hairdryer, if necessary.
