Salt water taffy is a delicious, sweet treat, perfect for any sweets lover! For some, it's almost as good as chocolate! Now you don't even have to drive to the beach shore to buy it! You can make it for yourself, your grandkids, friends, or even to bring to the office.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2/3 cup corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt flavoring
  • Lemon, orange, peppermint, lime, strawberry, pineapple or Fireball flavorings.
  • Pink, green, yellow, or orange color pastes

Regular Method

  1. Combine sugar and cornstarch.
  2. Put it into a saucepan.
  3. Add corn syrup, butter, and water, stir up ingredients.
  4. Heat, you want to make sure it doesn't crystallize so DO NOT STIR until the hard ball stage is reached, or boil until the mixture reaches 256°F or until a small portion forms a ball when tested in cold water.
  5. Add salt.
  6. Immediately Pour onto a greased slab and allow to cool slightly until the mixture can be handled as soon as it reaches the hard ball stage.
  7. Pull and pull until light in color.
  8. Divide into separate portions, and color and flavor each portion as desired, while it is being pulled.
  9. Pull out until 1 1/2 inches wide and 3/4 of an inch thick. Cut into pieces with a scissors and wrap in wax paper. Twist ends of paper to seal.

Red Striped Mint

  1. To make red striped minty kisses, follow regular instructions up to step eight.
  2. Color one portion of the candy brightly colored red.
  3. Let warm near the oven.
  4. Lay the large piece of pulled taffy on the marble slab.
  5. On the upper side, lay two or three parallel strips of white taffy.
  6. Turn the piece over and lay two or three white strips on that side.
  7. Pull out until 1 1/2 inches wide and 3/4 of an inch thick. Cut into pieces with scissors and wrap in wax paper. Twist ends of paper to seal. The taffies should be red in the middle and white on the outside.

Tips

  • If you feel like it, you can put the candies in a decorative box, so they look really professional.

Warnings
