This term of "making a prank-call" should only be used with your close friends, and all in good fun.
Step 1 Play around with your voice
The ideal standard is not to be recognized by the receiver. A deeper voice is usually a good idea, but, it's all relative, as it depends on the gender of the person you are attempting to masquerade.
Step 2 Make sure you have the right number
There is absolutely nothing more embarrassing than discovering that you have made a prank-call to someone who has absolutely no idea who you are, or who you're pretending to be.
Step 3 Make it sound real
If you're pretending to be an admirer, don't lavish on the romantic stuff if you know that the person in question is rather shy. Also, make sure your persona sounds convincing. If there's no way in the world that So-and-so would call up So-and-so and they know it, it's very likely a bad idea.
Step 4 Make it snappy
You really don't want to waste this person's time, do you? And, minutes of your life are also disappearing while you pretend to call someone.
Step 5 Also
Put it on Private. You can do this by dialing *67(in the U.S.) before the number. it will look like this, *67-382-968
Tips
- When dialing use "*67" in the US or "141" in the UK, so that they cant trace your call without the phone company getting involved.
- The most successful prank call is this: Hello, this is the National Cheese Factory of Switzerland. We are calling to report that you, (Insert friend's name here, first and last), have some overdue Swiss Cheese. To report any frauds in this message, please call our number at (Insert other friend's phone # here, but tell them what you are doing and make sure your other friend doesn't know them). If they do not believe you, please hang up, and call again. Your cheese will be fined if you do not call this number. Thank you.
- This is really funny if you do the Swiss Cheese Call.
- One really funny prank to do if it is an election year is call in your most robotic voice possible and say: "this is a political call. Vote Bag of Frozen Peas for president. Rock the VOTE!!!!!!" then hang up.
- If you are in a group, sit around the phone, call, and set it on speaker. When the person answers, do not respond; start singing. This works especially well with Christmas carols, which are designed for groups and can be performed as medleys.
Warnings
- This should be only done in good fun with CLOSE FRIENDS, whom you will admit to later.
- The two appropriate times of the year to prank call are April Fools' and Halloween.
- Make sure they can't trace your call, or that you have caller I.D. blocked, (this can be done in the UK by adding 141 to the start of the number or *67 in the US). That person can obviously expose you, and worse, badly backfire so you in some way get prank-ed.
- Do not use the line, "is your refrigerator running"? It does not work and is one of the oldest tricks in the book.
- With some telephone plans, you may get charged a fee for calling "*67". Check your plan to make sure you do not have to pay, and if you do, make sure you are willing to pay.
- Do not prank call the police, 911, or a school. They have the necessary tools to track down your phone number, even with *67. Plus, calling 911 could cause congestion in the line and you could be responsible for someones death because a 911 operator couldn't reach them.
