Pinch pots are some of the oldest archaeological artifacts found. Many civilizations used pinch pots for functional use, and some still do today. It's great fun for kids and grown ups alike.
Step 1
Knead the clay to get rid of all of the air pockets.
Step 2
Roll the clay into a large ball and make sure it is moist.
Step 3
Use your thumb and push down, creating a hole in the center of the ball.
Step 4
Make sure there is about 1/4 of an inch thickness on the bottom.
Step 5
Using your thumb and index finger, pinch and press the clay upward. With each movement of your fingers, begin at the bottom and move the clay up. Your pot should begin to take shape.
Step 6
Completed the basic shaping of your piece, then flatten the bottom. Smooth the bottom out with your fingers. Carefully press it against a table or work surface to create a flat bottom.
Step 7
Smooth out the pot with a rib or use tools to create a textured surface.
Step 8
Wait for it to dry, then you can paint it.
