Take a piece of newspaper and a dollop of imagination and you can become someone else entirely! Well, maybe not, but making a paper hat can be loads of fun and makes a great project for the kids. Wear the resulting paper hat as you role play your favorite pirate, sailor, priest - whatever your imagination decides that this hat will be!

Step 1

Take a full sheet of newspaper or to make a smaller one use only half of a full sheet.

Step 2

Fold on center crease. Position the folded crease at the top of your workspace.

Step 3

Fold a top corner to the center line, creating a diagonal crease.

Step 4

Fold the other top corner to the center line, creating a diagonal crease.

Step 5

Fold up the bottom edge, top layer only, to cover the edge of the two previous folds.

Step 6

Turn over the paper. Stop here for a pirate hat.

Step 7

Fold in the left outside edge partway to the center of the paper.

Step 8

Fold in the right outside edge partway to the center of the paper.

Step 9

Adjust to fit. The distance between the outside edges can be adjusted, more or less, to fit the size of your head.

Fold up the bottom edge.

Step 10

Open the hat, and place on your head. (See image at top of article for finished product)

Tips

  • You can also try this with other types of paper, such as construction paper or aluminum foil.
