This is a manual on how to prepare a Nickel, or possibly any other coin, such that it glows in the dark. This has practically no useful purpose, but might impress someone out there.

Step 1

Tear off the striker portion of a matchbook.

Step 2

Peel a layer of the paper backing from the striker and discard.

Step 3

Lay the Nickel down on an ashtray or other fireproof surface.

Step 4

Lay the prepared striker onto the nickel with the striker facing the nickel.

Step 5

Use the lighter (or a match from the second matchbook) to burn the striker.

Step 6

Allow the Nickel to cool, then carry it to a dark room or closet.

Step 7

Rub your thumb against the surface of the Nickel to cause the Nickel (and your thumb) to glow green.

Tips

  • Do not use the striker from a box of self striking matches, as it is merely a rough surface, and does not contain the proper chemicals necesary for a glow.

Warnings

  • I'm not sure if this is dangerous, so do this at your own risk.
  • Wash your hands carefully when you are done.

Things You'll Need

  • Two matchbooks or one matchbook and one lighter.
  • A standard U.S. Nickel.
  • An ashtray or fireproof surface.
