Need a classy miniskirt? Here's a simple way to make one from a pair of dress pants:

Step 1

Choose a pair of dress pants.

Step 2

Measure and cut each leg off at the knee.

Step 3

Using a seam ripper, undo the inner thigh and crotch seams.

Step 4

Cut to straighten the curve of the crotch seams.

Step 5

Restitch the crotch seams into straight seams.

Step 6

Fold the bottom of the skirt over twice to make a one and a half-inch hemline. Stitch the hem by hand.

Step 7

Reuse the leftover fabric. Assemble and attach one or two pockets at the back of the skirt or make a belt.

Step 8

Add a ruffle of lace to the hemline, if desired.

Tips

  • If fabric is prone to fray, place a zig zag stitch along the edge of the fabric prior to stitching the seam.

Things You'll Need

  • Dress pants
  • Seam ripper
  • Needle
  • Matching thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Matching or contrasting lace (optional)
