Tired of your shoes smelling all the time? Here's how you can get that horrible smell out of your shoes.Follow these few steps and your shoes will smell better than you thought was possible!

Step 1

Buy a product like Gran's Remedy that you can sprinkle into your shoes. If you don't have Gran's Remedy or a similar product, you can simply use baking soda. Baking soda is a deodorizer and will help the smell.

Step 2

Sprinkle your chosen product into your shoes at night time before you go to bed. Leave them to sit overnight.

Step 3

Remove the powder from your shoes in the morning by going outside and shaking the powder out, clap the soles of your shoes together to get rid of any excess powder. Your shoes should be smelling better.

Step 4

Put special cedarsoles (zederna is probably the best choice) made from cedarwood into your shoes. The wood has antifungal characteristics and gives your shoes a menthol-like aroma.

Step 5

Try Dr. Scholl's Odor eaters. On their own, or in addition to Gran's Remedy, they work very well. Also, spray your feet with one of the new foot deoderants (Dr.Scholls has one).

Step 6

Loosen shoes. At the end of the day loosen the laces and pull up the tongue to let the air out.

Step 7

Avoid wearing the same pair of shoes two days in a row.

Step 8

Use shoe insoles. Ladies can keep their sandals odor free by carefully cutting the odor control insoles to the exact shape of their open-toed shoes. The shoe insoles come in four colors: white, blue, black and tan.

Step 9

Secure the insole with small strips of double sided tape or dabs of rubber cement. Using either adhesive, the insole will stay on and can be easily removed when needing to be replaced.

Step 10

Use running socks, they apply 'moisture-wicking' technology which helps to keep your feet dry.

Tips

  • Do this on a regular basis to keep the smell out of your shoes.
  • Washing your socks with a product like Dettol (disinfectant), bleach and color safe bleach can help keep your socks and shoes from smelling.
  • There are also some sprays that you can put in your shoes. Follow the instructions on the container so you have a better understanding of the product.
  • Another way to get the stink out is putting some baby powder in the shoe. Of course putting a dryer sheet in the shoe works as well.
  • Always wash and thoroughly dry your feet before putting on your shoes; that will help the prolong life of your shoes, too.
  • Apply an antiperspirant to feet. Stops feet from sweating and making shoes smell. Use a lotion on your feet before using your shoes.
  • Putting a fabric softener sheet in your shoes each night works great as well.
  • Always wear socks with shoes, they help wick up sweat and prevent smelly bacteria from growing in your shoes.
  • If your shoes already smell bad, you can try spraying the insides with a product like Lysol. Give them a good soaking with the Lysol and let them dry for a few days.
  • Remember to take care of your feet, as well! If you think you have a fungus, get it treated. Calluses often retain the smell of sweaty feet even after you shower, so gently use a pumice on your feet often to remove excess callus.
  • Since the smell comes from bacteria, you can also get rid of the smell by spraying rubbing alcohol into the shoes.

Warnings

  • Your shoes may never have to be replaced because of odor, which is a good thing. ;)
  • Sometimes double sided tape makes noise when you walk. Test it out before you go somewhere where you don't want squeaky feet.
  • Some people recommend that you freeze your shoes to kill stinky bacteria. All this will get you is a stinky freezer in addition to your stinky shoes.
