Want to float around without dying first? Longing to leave your body at home? People report out of body experiences during dreaming, during near death experiences, or during relaxation like meditation. Read on to learn how to experience this on purpose.

Step 1

Find a quiet place you find relaxing. You can be indoors or outdoors, as long as you are comfortable. Make sure you won't be interrupted.

Step 2

Find a comfortable position, either sitting or laying down. Many people choose to lay down on their backs, but be forewarned that temporary sleep paralysis is more likely in this position if you do fall asleep.

Step 3

Say to yourself, "I will remember my dreams" or "I will have a lucid dream."

Step 4

Relax by either allowing yourself to fall asleep, or through intense meditation.

Step 5

As you relax and you become less conscious of your external surroundings, will yourself to float forward. You may feel tingling, a feeling of paralysis, or your ears may feel like they are ringing.

Step 6

Focus on seeing and hearing your surroundings without moving your body, or opening your eyes.

Warnings

  • Looking back at your physical body can be a shock, even when you're expecting it, and shocks will pull you back into your body. Be prepared.
