Though subject to individual opinions, the vampire look is definitely a mysterious and interesting one. It could be seen by some to be a combination of Gothic and New Romantic but generally, it's just about looking like a vampire.

Step 1

Be sure you actually wish to change your look to a Vampire look. Tis insulting to "real" vampires if you are joking around or poking fun at people. For, even though real vampires don't exist, there are people who genuinely think of themselves as "real" vampires and/or who consider Vampire to be a scene, just like Goth, Punk or Prep. Do you truly wish to change your scene to Vampire? Carry on...

Step 2

Hair: Hair is very important in the Vampire scene. Your hair colour should be vibrant. You don't need to have black hair, although it is very stereotypical and is overall a nice look. Any colour will work, as long as it works well with your complexion and is a wee bit sexy. Whatever the colour, make sure your hair is healthy and very shiny. Keep it free of split ends and well-trimmed. The cut matters little in the Vampire subculture, although a mysterious, sexy and full-bodied cut usually has the best effect. Keep it clean and well-brushed, not greasy or tangled. Straight hair works fine, although loose curls and/or waves are very sexy and help create a sultry, mystic appearance.

Step 3

Skin: Your skin does not need to be pale, although a pale look is desirable over a tan. After all, Vampires typically are not creatures of the sunlight! For a pale complexion, use a foundation slightly lighter than your skin tone, if you are pale already. Or, use a foundation meant to achieve a pale effect, such as that used by Goths. Whatever complexion you have, it must be free of acne. Wash your face regularly and use good acne control products to keep it in check. Sparkles are also a nice touch, but don't go so overboard as to look tacky. Just use them as an accent.

Step 4

Eyes: Vampire eye makeup can be as dark or light as you prefer. For most looks, use a purple eyeshadow with black mascara, and perhaps a touch of a dark-coloured eyeliner if you still need your eyes to "pop" a little. Typically, Vampire eyes are actually fairly light, with the lips as the focus point instead. Sparkly or shiny coloured contacts are always a nice Vampy touch: you can be as creative as you want with them. Gold-coloured contacts give a nice Twilightish look, and very light blue ones are also subtle but Vampy. If you wish to be a wee bit more extreme, try blood-red, black, or even "cat eyes"... or be as unusual and creative as you wish. Also, many Vampires wear sunglasses during the day, so that the bright sunlight does not hurt their eyes.

Step 5

Lips: Lips are usually the most vibrant piece of Vampire makeup. Depending on your complexion and intended look, use shades between a bright red and blood-red. Using black lipstick makes you look very Goth instead, so try to avoid it. Add a red or clear lipgloss if you wish, although there is no requirement to be shiny.

Step 6

Teeth: Even if you don't wear fangs, make sure to take very good care of your teeth. Brush them well and have them seen by a dentist regularly. Vampires take pride in their teeth, and you should, aswell. If you do wear fangs, find small ones that don't look tacky. Tooth caps are much easier to speak in than full mouthpieces, and they look more natural. And don't paint blood on them. Whilst it may be appropriate for Halloween, it is tacky and silly-looking when used everyday.

Step 7

Nails: Vampires take very good care of their nails. Let them grow long, but keep them neatly filed to a rounded point. For a more natural look, use a clear nail polish to preserve nail strength. If you want a more dramatic effect, use black, blood-red or purple nail polish.

Step 8

Body: The stereotypical Vampire is very gaunt, but you needn't starve to be Vampy. Take daily walks (in the moonlight), join a gym, or do something to get a bit toned and in shape. Vampires are supposed to be serenely beautiful and sexy, so being toned helps with the whole effect quite nicely.

Step 9

Dress, Everyday: Vampires are always well-dressed, so never go around looking shabby or unkept. For women, fancy black skirts, black or red tops with bell sleeves or another Vampy accent, corset tops, black dresses, or, for a more 'everyday' look, black skinny jeans with a red, purple, or black top or corset. Black skirts with ruby studded designs look awesome. Shoes should be dark coloured, probably black, usually dressy, Medieval-styled flats or even small heels. For men, dark, slightly Victorian styles work well, or dark pants with a smart-looking shirt.

Step 10

Dress, Formal: Vampires already dress fairly formally, so formal wear isn't an enormous leap from everyday wear. For women, Medieval or Victorian-style dresses in dark colours work well, and for men, an older-fashioned tuxedo or dressier shirt.

Step 11

Dress, Cold Weather: In cold weather, Vampires usually wear long velvet cloaks in black or red, though this can be very noticable. For a less conspicuous look, try a dark-coloured jacket with antiqued buttons or other interesting detail. Or perhaps a leather jacket. Depending on your look, it could give off a modern vampire look. To try to "spice" up the look, girls add an antique necklace to wear over it.

Tips

  • Wear dark colours, avoiding pastels.
  • Be dressy, no matter the occasion.
  • Remember, Vampires have seen trends come and go. They tend to stick with more classic styles.

Warnings

  • Do not paint blood on your fangs. It simply looks tacky.
  • Don't try to bite anyone. Even if you seriously feel like it, you can spread disease, hurt someone, and be prosecuted for it.
  • Don't forget your sometimes-still-human capabilities. Even if you think you are a superhero, you may not be, so don't get yourself hurt by forgetting.
  • Don't drink blood. It spreads disease like wildfire and if you are not careful about what kind you are drinking, it can kill you. If you really feel the need, find something else red to drink, but stay away from blood.

  • Foundation 2 shades lighter than natural skin tone
  • High quality fangs
  • Dark red nail polish
  • Clear nail polish
  • Hair Gel or Hair tie
