Everyone wants lovely nails, looking as if they have had a manicure, but it doesn't have to be as difficult as you think...
Step 1
START FROM SCRATCH. It's no use trying to grow your nails long and even if they are all different sizes to begin with. Get some good quality nail clippers and clip the white tips of your nails off so you can only see the pink part of your nails.
Step 2
Use a nail file to get rid of any ragged white parts that the nail clippers didn't cut of. Don't file back and forth, it is bad for your nails.
Step 3
Get a bottle of clear nail varnish and give every nail a coat of polish. Apply an extra coat if necessary. This will strengthen and reduce chipping and splitting to the nails.
Step 4
As the nails grow each day, gently file the nails into the shape you want, and apply extra coats of nail varnish, if necessary.
Step 5
When the nail varnish starts to chip, use a gentle nail polish remover to get rid of the nail polish with as little damage as possible and apply some more polish.
Step 6
When your nails get to the desired length, just file the nail when needed to maintain its shape and stop the nails growing too long.
Tips
- Instead of using a metal nail file, use an emery board file as they are better for your nails.
- Use hand and nail cream to keep nails moisturized and prevent splitting.
- Eating dairy products will help nails grow faster and stronger, but a balanced diet is needed as well.
- Instead of using your nails as tools, take a couple of seconds to find the correct tool, it saves chipping and breaking to the nails.
- If your nails are really weak, you could try some nail strengthener polish.
- Use a 4 sided nail file, first you file as usual, second is a ridge smoother to prevent chipping, third will smooth the actual nail where you apply polish, and last you make the actual nail shinier. Use one of these before applying polish to make shinier and appear healthier.
Warnings
- When you clip off the white tips of your nail, don't clip the nail into the shape you want, this will damage your nail badly. Just clip the majority of the white bit off in one clip and FILE the rest of the white part of the nail.
- Don't file your nails back and forth, file in one direction, it is quicker and better for your nails.
- Never inhale nail polish or nail polish remover as it could be fatal.
- Don't grow your nails too long as it is unhygienic and your nails are more at risk of chipping and splitting.
