At many camps, when the kids leave, they give each other notes to read on the bus once they've left. But they faced a problem: the note was only folded in half so many kids gave-in and read the note before they got to the bus, much to the disappointment of the person who wrote the note. To solve this problem, the kids made a bus note. This way, the note could only be opened once, and could not easily be read, reducing the likelihood that the receiver will succumb to temptation.

Step 1

Start out with a rectangular piece of paper. An A4 piece of paper is perhaps the most preferable. A4 paper is a commonly used size of paper often used in printers. It is 8.27 X 11.69 inches and 21.0 × 29.7 cm. You can often find it in many shops. Write your note on the paper. It doesn't matter where you write it.

Step 2

Fold all of the corners on the paper. Fold it as if you were making a paper airplane, only do it to all of the corners.

Step 3 Fold the sides in. Follow the picture for guidance.

Step 4

Fold the points in. Now the paper should be in the shape of a rectangle with no ends sticking out.

Step 5

Fold about one third of the paper backwards. If you turn it around, you should just see one end, and the same goes for the other side.

Step 6

Wedge the first side into the other. This is where it gets confusing. Flip the paper to the side where its folded back, and fold the top down, towards you. Then wedge the corners of that side into the open corners of the second. This is the most confusing part of the entire project.

Step 7

Turn the paper 180 degrees. For the finishing touch, write "pull" on to the triangle sticking out of the corners. When pulled, the paper should come apart, revealing your hidden message. The friend will be afraid of opening it early because they won't be able to put it back together!

Tips

  • If everyone you know uses this trick, different colors can make yours unique and crafty.
  • Once you get good at it, see how many you can fold in one minute.
  • This is a fun thing to do to occupy your hands, but don't fold every piece of paper you see into a bus note. People will probably get annoyed if you leave a trail of bus notes wherever you go.

Warnings

  • Don't let anyone else read it!

Things You'll Need

  • A piece of paper (either square or rectangular)
