This article should help you get an excellent grade on your next report.

Step 1  

Write down all the details of the assignment, including the topic, when it is due, length, and specific format instructions (such as heading).

Step 2  

Brainstorm your ideas about that particular topic.

Step 3  

Write down how you will present your ideas in a specific order.

Step 4  

Construct your first sentence.

Step 5  

Write down your main ideas to be presented; depending on the length of the paper, five should be sufficient.

Step 6  

Write your concluding sentences.

Step 7  

Write down the title of the report.

Step 8  

Evaluate and revise your paper (reread paper, correcting spelling, grammar and punctuation. Make sure you get the facts relating to Who, What, Why, Where, When, and How.

Step 9  

Answer the following questions (if you answer negatively to any of them, consider revising again):  

  • Does my title catch my reader's attention?
  • Does my introduction draw my reader into the paper?
  • Is the opening paragraph easy to understand?
  • Is every group of words a complete sentence?, Do all the sentences in each paragraph support the main idea?
  • Should I take out any sentences?
  • Is each paragraph clearly linked to the paragraph before and after?
  • Does my conclusion restate my main idea?
  • Does my report leave my reader with a sense of completeness?
  • Does my last sentence remind my reader of my opening sentence?
