Have you ever been annoyed by the computer going into screen-saver mode before you've even logged in to it? This is a step-by-step guide to disabling this feature.

Step 1

Login to your computer as an administrator account. If you are the only active user on your computer, then your default login name should have administrative privileges.

Step 2

Go to START -> Run. Type regedit into the text box, and hit enter to load the Registry Editor [see warnings]. The following window should appear:

Step 3

By double-clicking on the appropriate folders, Navigate to HKEY_USERS -> .DEFAULT -> CONTROL PANEL -> DESKTOP. You should see:

Step 4

On the rightmost panel, scroll down until you see the "ScreenSaveActive" and "ScreenSaveTimeOut" values.

Step 5

Set the "ScreenSaveActive" value to 0 and the "ScreenSavetimeOut" value to 0. You can do this by double clicking on the words and entering the number 0 in the following pop-up window.

Step 6

Close the Registry Editor.

Warnings

  • Be certain that you are editing the correct values. Do not edit any other values in the registry unless you are certain that you know what you are doing.
  • Editing the registry incorrectly can make your computer completely unusable and inaccessible. It is a good idea to backup the registry before you make any changes to it. You can do this by going to File -> Export... in the Registry Editor main window.
