So it's that time of the month again. You'd rather stay at home and veg out, but you have to go to school. Here's how to deal with it.

Step 1

Come to school all fresh and clean. You should have a clean pair of undies. Change your feminine product often enough to avoid smelling bad or wear perfume.

Step 2

Go to the bathroom every 3-4 hours. This way you can check for leaks and change your feminine product if needed. If this is annoying try wearing a high absorbency tampon so your can go through the whole school day, but remember that it is not so safe to use a tampon for more than 8 consistent hours.(Don't wear a pad all day as it will probably smell.)

Step 3

Don't sweat it! Every girl has to go through it sometime if she hasn't already. Chances are that some of the girls in your class have their periods and feel the same way.

Step 4

Don't be embarrassed either. There is no reason to be embarrassed about your period. It is just a part of life and it happens. If you have a situation and need help, just ask your lady teacher/secretary/nurse/friend.

Step 5

Always be prepared. If you don't know when your period is due then you should always carry some extra pads/tampons in a small case in your backpack/desk/locker/purse. You never know! You don't want to be surprised with a big red stain on your pants. If you suffer from cramps, you should carry a mini sized Tylenol, Advil, Midol, etc.

Step 6

If you dont like tampons and pads, like for sports and long term activities, you might want to try the diva cup. it is a reusable cup that is like a tampon.

and wont leak if you have it in right. it can last up to 12 hours before you need to change it.

Tips

  • Don't let your period get in the way of your day. School can still be fun even when you are menstruating!
  • Keep an extra pair of panties if you have an emergency at school and need to change right away.
  • At the moment, if you don't have a pad use folded toilet paper or tissues until you make your way down to the office/nurses room/or qym teachers room to get one. Schools always supply pads.
  • Try to wear something dark so that if you do leak a little on your clothes it's not as noticeable as if you wore white or tan.
  • Wear two pairs of underwear, wear a pad in both of them to avoid any possible leaks.
  • Bring an extra pair of dark shorts in your back pack just in case or some tide to go.
  • If you are worried about gym shorts in PE being too loose and your pad flying out, especially in humid climates, wear bike shorts or spandex shorts.
  • Put a stash in your bag and just bring your bag with you in between classes so you look like you want to save yourself a trip to your locker or something and once in a stall just take your lady product out of your bag.
  • Set up a code with your mom or someone that can bring you stuff if your period comes by surprise. Say something like, "Mom, my stomach hurts" or "Do I still have that doctor's appointment today?" She can come to pick you up or bring you supplies. Or, set up a system with your friends. If someone needs something, they can ask for a pen or whatever.

Warnings

  • Be clean! When you come out of the bathroom make sure you left clean and tidy and not noticeable or messy.
  • From time to time check your backside and your clothes for stains.

Things You'll Need

  • Pads/tampons
  • Tylenol/Advil/Midol
  • 25 cents in case your school's girls restroom sells pads or tampons.
