Playing video games online with your Xbox 360 is one of the best parts of the console. Before you can do so however, you must first create an Xbox Live Gamertag.

Step 1

Create an account with MSN (go to www.msn.com, click "sign in" then click "sign up".)

Step 2

Wait for the confirmation e-mail. (This can take up to 10 min)

Step 3

Go to www.xbox.com and click register.

Step 4

Enter your information, pick a name, avatar, etc.

Step 5

Enter your MSN registered address.

Step 6

If you just want a silver membership, you're done. If you want to be able to play games online, keep reading.

Step 7

Click next, and then upgrade.

Step 8

Enter your Credit Card number or promotional code.

Step 9

Wait for another confirmation e-mail. (This will only take 1-2 min)

Step 10

Wait for a PM on the forums, once you get it click the validate link.

Step 11

Congratulations, you're finally done.

Tips

  • Lots of people have already created Gamer-tags, so have a few names ready in case yours is already taken.
  • Have a credit card or pre-paid promotional card ready
  • If its your first time creating an account, choose the silver membership to get a free 1 month trial on the subscription section.
  • Check to make sure your spam filter isn't blocking the confirmation e-mails if you haven't received them within 30 minutes.
  • If you don't feel like making an MSN account or a Hotmail account you can use any other email address like yahoo or google as long as on the windows live id section you select no create one. It will be a bogus email but it will be accepted temporarily and you have an option of changing it to an MSN or a Hotmail account whenever you feel like changing it
  • If your still a minor and your parents agreed to let you play M rated contents then you can create an adult account by typing down a different year of birth (you can put your parents DOB if its ok with them). After the account is created, even if your a minor you wount have any issues with playing or downloading any M rated content.

Warnings

  • You should never use someone else's credit card without their permission.
  • Children under the age of 13 shouldn't be using the internet without parental permission.
  • Game ratings can change when playing online, be aware.
  • Be careful of the gamer tag and the DOB you entered since it will cost you 800 MS points to change your gamer tag and you wount be able to change your DOB till the system recognizes its no longer a minor (18+)

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with high speed internet connection.
  • A modem or a router but it you don't have this devices then you can connect your console on your computer via internet connection sharing as long as its running on windows XP
  • Credit card/Promotional code.
  • About 20-25 minutes.
  • An email address
