Corn on the cob can be cooked either on the stove top, on the grill, or in the microwave oven. Either way it is best to have the pot boiling before you pick your corn on the cob. Of course if a nearby corn field isn't handy the following cooking tips will help the sweeten deal.

Ingredients

Boiling Method

  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • A few cups of water

Grilling Method

  • 1 stick of unsalted butter
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Salt and Pepper

Boiling Method

  1. Bring a pot of water to boil. 
  2. Remove corn husks from corn. 
  3. Rinse.
  4. Add sugar and salt to the boiling water
  5. Add corn.
  6. Bring water back to the boil.
  7. Cook 5 to 7 minutes.
  8. Remove corn cobs with tongs. Drain.
  9. Serve.

Grilling Method

  1. Remove husks.
  2. Rinse corn cobs.
  3. Take a sheet of aluminum foil big enough to wrap the corn in.
  4. Coat the sheet of foil with butter
  5. Salt and pepper the butter.
  6. Wrap the corn in the foil.
  7. Grill for 12 minutes.

Tips

  • When husking the corn, try to grab on the cornsilk in hunks. Doing this makes removing the cornsilk from the cob so much easier.
  • There are many varieties of corn available. "Sugar and cream" corn is one of the sweetest eating varieties found at the market. You may not have to add sugar, if cooking this type of bi-color corn.
  • Serve with melted butter.

  • Be careful with the hot water.
  • ALWAYS open the lid to a boiling pot of water away from your face.
  • Be sure to let the corn cool before serving.
