This is a guide to configure Windows Mobile 6 Standard devices to connect and synchronize with an Exchange Server. The guide assumes that the user has basic knowledge of using Windows Mobile 6 and has obtained the proper Exchange Server information (see the 'Things You'll Need' section for details). Screen shots are integrated into the instructions for each screen that is displayed during the process. The screen shots are posted after the required steps on that particular screen.

Step 1  

Power on the Windows Mobile 6 device and wait for Windows Mobile to load.

Step 2  

Once at the Home Screen, press the 'Start' softkey.

 

Step 3  

Locate 'Messaging' in the menu and open it.

 

Step 4  

Navigate down to 'New E-mail Account...' and open it.

 

Step 5  

Enter your Exchange-based E-mail address in the prompt.

Step 6  

For this guide, uncheck 'Try to get e-mail settings automatically from the Internet'.

Step 7  

Press the 'Next' softkey.

 

Step 8  

In the 'Your e-mail provider' option box, scroll right until ‘Exchange Server’ is present.

Step 9  

Press the 'Next' softkey.

 

Step 10  

Confirm the selection to use 'Outlook with Exchange' by pressing the 'Next' softkey.

 

Step 11  

In the 'Server address' prompt, enter the address for your Exchange Server.

Step 12  

If your server uses SSL, check the ‘The server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection’ box.

Step 13  

Press the ‘Next’ softkey.

 

Step 14  

Enter the user information (username, password, and domain).

Step 15  

Press the 'Next' softkey.

 

Step 16  

Select the data you would like to synchronize with the Exchange Server (Contacts, Calendar, E-mail, Tasks).

Step 17  

Press the 'Finish' softkey.

 

Step 18  

Wait during synchronization to your server(this may take a few minutes).

 

Step 19  

Once synchronization is complete, your Inbox is displayed. All of the data selected in Step 16 is now synchronized to your Windows Mobile 6 device. If the process was unsuccessful, contact your administrator and try again later.

Tips

  • The word 'open' on this guide refers pressing the appropriate button on your device to access a highlighted item. Since this button differs between devices, it is not possible to specify which specific button to press. Refer to your device's owner's manual for more information.
  • When using Windows Mobile 6 with Exchange Server 2007, new emails are 'pushed' directly to your device! This means the server automatically forwards the email to your device so that Windows Mobile does not have to check in with the server to receive mail. Ultimately, this results in receiving your email sooner.
  • Using a Windows Mobile 6 device to sync to an Exchange Server requires internet access, which can be over Wi-Fi or a cellular network such as EDGE, EV-DO, 3G, etc.
  • If you make a mistake and wish to start from the beginning of this guide, press the Home Screen button on the device. From here, you can start at step 1 of these instructions. Alternatively, you can press the Back button to go back to the previous screen.
  • Your Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks can be accessed via the Start Menu by opening Calendar, Contacts, or Tasks.
  • Your E-Mail can be accessed via the Start Menu by opening Messaging then Outlook E-mail.
