Mewtwo is said to be the strongest and the best Pokemon in the world. It can also be the strongest Pokemon in your collection. Here are some simple 'How to' steps on catching Mewtwo and being one step closer to being a Pokemon Master!

Step 1

Beat the Elite Four. You cannot get Mewtwo if you don't defeat the Elite Four and become champion. Once you have done that, check to see what type of game you have. If it is a Red, Blue or Yellow, then you can directly go to the cave in Cerulean City (proceed to step 5). If you have Leaf Green or Fire Red, then proceed onto the next step.

Step 2 Get the Ruby

  1. Go to Island 1 and go to the volcano. You will need a Pokemon who knows surf to do this because it is on an island.
  2. Go to the entrance, and there you will see some Team Rocket soldiers chillin' out. You will hear the first password to the Rocket Warehouse (explained later). They will see you, so you will have to battle them.
  3. Once you have finished, go inside the cave entrance and proceed all the way down to the bottom level. You do not need to read the braille charts and all that. You will need strength to do this, so get a Pokemon who knows strength.
  4. Pick up the ruby. Then you can go outside using an escape rope. If not, then you will have to get out manually.

Step 3 Get the Sapphire

  1. Go to Island 6 and go to the Dotted Hole as shown on the town map you have. Go to the entrance, and it will say "cut" in braille. So, you will need a Pokemon who knows cut.
  2. Go inside, and look at the braille signs. If it has 2 symbols, it will mean "up." If it has 5, then its right. If it has 4, then it is either left or down. You can probably figure it out, but if you mess up you have to start over again.
  3. Proceed to the bottom level. Once you're there, you will see the sapphire. Don't get excited, because a super nerd will take it first. He will give you the second password to the Rocket Warehouse though.
  4. Go to Island 5 and go to the Rocket Warehouse. Defeat all the soldiers there.
  5. Search on the internet on how to get through the warehouse. You will have to defeat all the soldiers in there as well.
  6. Finish off the last soldiers, and at the end you will see the same guy again. Battle him. If you beat him, you will get the Sapphire.

Step 4

Give the gems to Celio. (the guy who operates the machine on Island 1) He will connect the regions of Kanto and Hoenn by signal (not important unless you are trading with a guy there).

Step 5

Go to Cerulean City. Then go to the cave where you will see that the man has gone. You will need surf to get to the cave. Go to Route 24 and get onto the artificial stream that connects the cave with Route 24. Go inside the cave, and there will be a lot of strong Pokemon there.

Step 6

Go through the maze, and at the end you will see Mewtwo. Catch him with the Master Ball. Now this is very important: Mewtwo is one of the most difficult Pokemon to capture, but that doesn't mean it is impossible to catch him with an ultra ball. If you used your master ball, you must stock up 50-65 ultra balls and SAVE. Once you have captured him, you are free to go.

Tips

  • When you get your Master Ball from the president of Silph Co. in Saffron City, it would be wise to save it until you catch Mewtwo since it's one of the hardest Pokemon to catch in the game.
  • Try to fill your whole team up with Pokemon varying from level 65-80 if you have already used your Master Ball. He will be level 70 when you meet him.
  • Bring a Pokemon that can cause Sleep or Paralysis. This will make Mewtwo's catch easier for you if have already used your Master Ball.
  • Save your game before you catch Mewtwo. If something happens or goes wrong, you can always turn your game off and start over again right in front of Mewtwo.
  • The easiest way to catch Mewtwo without the Master ball is to freeze it or put it into sleep by a NON-PSYCHIC Pokemon.
  • Use all types of Pokemon because it's quite hard to defeat these wild Pokemon.
  • Remember: All Pokemon in the Cerulean Cave (AKA Unknown Dungeon) are at least Level 46 - Level 70.
  • Mewtwo can be caught with an ultra ball. But it is very difficult.

Warnings

  • Cerulean Cave is full of strong Pokemon of high levels.
  • You can only try to catch Mewtwo once, so save before you fight him.
  • Some Pokemon in Cerulean Cave (AKA Unknown Dungeon) won't let you escape/run so be careful!
  • You can get easily disoriented in the Cerulean cave; remember, it's a big place, with a lot of strong Pokemon!
  • Max repels do work on the Pokemon in the cave! However, if your active Pokemon is lower-leveled than the wild Pokemon, the repel won't work. For best effect with the repel, put your strongest Pokemon active.

Things You'll Need

  • A Pokemon who knows Surf
  • A Pokemon who knows Rock Smash
  • A Pokemon who knows Strength
  • A Pokemon who knows Cut
  • A Pokemon who knows Fly (Optional)
  • Either your Master Ball or at least 50 Ultra Balls (Recommended)
  • A team of Pokemon levels 65-100(Recommended)
