This guide will help bring out natural, defined curlies for girls with stick-straight or frizzy hair. The key is lots of moisture!
Step 1
Go for a trim. Trimming will remove split ends that frizz wavy hair and drag down straight hair.
Step 2
Use a pre-shampoo treatment. One simple treatment is extra-virgin olive oil. About 20 minutes before you shower, comb the olive oil thoroughly through your hair. Braid it and pull it up under a shower cap. You can leave the cap in place until the end of your shower, as the heat allows the olive oil to work more effectively. Shampoo it out and condition as normal.
Step 3
Use a clarifying shampoo, particularly one that is clear. Use a small amount and only shampoo your scalp. Massage the shampoo into your scalp and rinse it so that it flows through the rest of your hair.
Step 4
Concentrate the conditioner on your ends. Use a minimum amount of conditioner on your scalp, especially if you have oily skin.
Step 5
After you shower, towel dry your hair by carefully blotting it section by section. Do not vigorously rub your hair with the towel, as this could break your hair (which causes frizzies).
Step 6
Apply a leave-in conditioner with your fingers.
Step 7
Apply a curl-enhancing mousse if you shower in the morning, such as L'Oreal. Blow dry while you scrunch the hair upwards. If you have straight hair, blow dry the underside of your hair as well, to give your curls volume. Spritz on hairspray.
Step 8
Apply a curl-enhancing gel if you shower before you go to bed. Concentrate it on your ends and away from your scalp to avoid dandruff. Sleep with your hair in a braid for waves. For ringlets, divide your hair into small, about 1 inch sections. Twist the hair into tiny buns and insert 2 bobby pins crosswise into each bun to hold the hair in place. Sleep with an old pair of pantyhose over your hair to avoid disturbing it. In the morning, remove the bobby pins and gently shake your hair out. Do not comb or brush the hair, as this will create frizz. Spritz with hairspray.
Tips
- Depending on your hair type, consider cutting your hair in layers. This type of haircut will allow your hair to bounce into defined ringlets if you take care of it properly.
- Use a Denman Brush to help enhance the curl. Leave in a little bit of your conditioner. Then section by section apply your styling product and brush it through with your denman. Let the curls loose. Do all over. Let dry. Beautiful curls will be yours!
- to reduce frizz, dry your hair with a cotton t shirt
