When a guy breaks up a long distance relationship he should consider the girl's feelings. He should allow her to respond and you should not just break it off and then hang up. Before you think about breaking up you should seriously consider your options. Are you breaking up because of pressure from your environment? Did you try your best in this relationship?

Figure out exactly why you are breaking up. Understand that she will be hurt, so make sure you can explain it clearly. She can understand it better if your explanation is clearer.

When you don't think things are working out between you two, explain why. If you give her an honest reason, she will understand, and if not, she can share her feelings with you.

When you are done explaining, let her give her side of the story. If she had done something that you did not like, let her explain. Give her a chance, as it will make the breakup less painful for her.

When she asks you questions, answer her. Be honest and be patient. Remember that you are hurting her.

Do not just say what you have to say, and then walk away, or hang up the telephone. Give her a chance to respond. Be kind and considerate.

- When you feel you do not want to see her again, tell her!! Do not hem and haw. Be honest.
- Do not break up over the telephone, or email or even fax. If you had a relationship with her, and she had meant something to you, consider her feelings, and break up in person.
- If you have feelings for someone else and are thinking about beginning a relationship with another girl you should end it cleanly with the long distance girlfriend before you let the relationship with the other girl move any farther. Remember, even a telephone break up is less painful than being lied to and led on.
- Think about how you would prefer to have 'her' break up with you. What would be less painful if the break up were reversed.
Warnings
- Don't be too blunt, and be careful with the truth. Sure, a girl asks you to be truthful with them, but they want it in a kind way.
- If you won't see her for some time after you decide to end it, don't stop talking to her all together or avoid her calls and emails. That is disrespectful and cruel. She will be hurt by your cowardice and refusal to tell her the truth and will realize she is being left before you end it.
- If you do keep in contact, be careful that you do not lead them on to a possible future together unless you mean it. Contact should be minimal and scarce as emotions can linger with communication.
