Pentecostalism is a form of evangelical Christianity that believes in the Bible as inspired by God. The main objective of a Pentecostal Christian is to trust Jesus Christ as the only Savior and way to heaven, thus be "born again", seek baptism of the Holy Spirit and follow God.

Step 1

Read the Bible and pray asking God to guide you. Although it's not compulsoary it might be a good idea to pray with a Pentecostal Christian as they would hopefully be able to help. Ask God for forgiveness for all of your sins through the son Jesus Christ and acknowledge him as Lord and Saviour.

Step 2

Learn about Christianity, particularly the beliefs of the Pentecostal church, which actually has countless different groups worldwide.

Step 3

Make sure you agree with the doctrinal beliefs or be prepared to find out more and consider it with an open mind.

Step 4

Find your local Pentecostal church by looking in your phone book. Call the church ahead for service times.

Step 5

Meet the Pastor.

Step 6

Attend a service for fellowship.

Step 7

Live a life guided by the Holy Spirit.

Step 8

Follow the teachings of Jesus.

True Christian doctrine!

  1. Notice that it's quite fundamental Christian doctrine of the apostle Paul!. "Be filled with the Spirit"(Ephesians 5:18)
  2. See what Jesus taught, "You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth"(Acts 1:8)

Tips

  • Bring a Bible.
  • Be prepared for a church service full of music, dancing, shouting, joy, and hardcore preaching.
  • Get involved in church functions to get to know people better.
  • Enjoy yourself as the Holy Spirit is a gentleman. It is not odd or strange to follow the Bible; the pentecostal blessing and fruits of the Holy Spirit and gifts of the Holy Spirit are clearly expressed and intensely important in the Bible, but were explained without much detail.(Acts 2 explains "The Day of Pentecost" clearly.)
  • The specific verse from Scripture where the 9 fruits of God's Holy Spirit are given is this verse:
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control."(Galatians 5:22) Nothing odd or peculiar...

Warnings

  • Occasionally Pentecostals, like others, can be judgmental toward others, but don't let that get to you. Be forgiving, have mercy, and express love towards them. NOBODY is perfect. At the same time don't be afraid to give your point of view. In the first couple of chapters in the book of James it says that a church should show no partiality based upon outward appearance. The Bible also teaches that all have sinned and all have fallen short of the Glory of God and that nobody is better than you. If you're in a church which places some people in higher value than others then that is wrong.
  • We do believe that there is an evil side to the world (ex. hell, devil) .
  • Several (not all) Pentecostal churches are serious about finding new converts, even within Christianity, and leading them "into receiving the Holy Spirit." These churches believe that the outward sign of rebirth and salvation for every believer is speaking in tongues (glossolalia).*
  • This, according to the Bible, is the BAPTISM in the Holy Spirit, not receiving it. Receiving the Holy Spirit happens when you are Born Again (John 3:3). Being Baptised in tthe Holy Spirit is something that you work towards once you're Born Again (See 'how to become a Pentecostal Christian first point.)
  • In some churches it is expected that women should be modest, in accordance with the Word of the Lord (Bible) and wear skirts or dresses, no jewelry (no outward adornment), no makeup (natural beauty from God), and the women aren't to cut their hair (see I Corinthians 11:1-15) and men should wear clean cut haircuts and nicely fitted clothes. Basically very conservative.
