Cross dressing is nothing to be ashamed of, as long as you feel comfortable with this style change then be creative with what you wear and never let anyone tell you that your decision is wrong.

Step 1

Move in stages if you feel shy about this change in style and find the idea of going from one gender's dress to the other overnight frightening. Start with more subtle clothing choices and build up to wearing things you feel are more daring. For men you could start just with women's jeans and tops, and girls could just start wearing smarter trousers and shirts. Go slow if you are worried, you'll become used to wearing the clothes and become more comfortable with yourself.

Step 2

Ask a friend to borrow their clothes and see if you are really happy with wearing these clothes before going out and buying a new wardrobe. Also if you have a friend you can share this new experience with will probably make you feel a lot happier with your feelings. Don't be afraid to talk to others about this and involve them.

Step 3

Talk to friends and family if you need support, or even go online and see if there are any crossdressing groups who offer support.

Step 4

Remember you are not a 'freak' or in any way abnormal you are just you and don't feel you have to hide what you want to be for others.

Step 5

Don't be embarrassed to show the world your new and improved lifestyle.

Step 6

Stay comfortable with your look, and frequently find different outfits to wear.

Tips

  • Involve others! If you are going out and are shy about wearing your clothes then go with a friend or meet up with them before the outing. Your friends will be there to support you, don't feel shy about going to them if you feel uncomfortable at any point.
  • Just because you are cross dressing does not mean you have to force yourself to be the stereotype, only wear what you like. You don't always have to cross dress don't feel pressured to do anything you don't want to.
  • If you decide cross dressing is not where you really want to be do not feel as if you have to stay that way because people will think badly of you. People change, it is a fact of life, you may feel one way for many years then change. It is perfectly acceptable and normal.
  • Enjoy yourself!
  • Go to a Mac or Clinique counter and get a makeover. Get whatever suits you and don't forget false eyelashes!
  • Get your ears pierced. It is highly recommended to go to an actual piercing parlor and not places like Claire's or Pagoda; they use piercing guns, which are unsafe and have a high risk for infection! If you don't want pierced ears, you can always use fake earrings.
  • Try some glue-on nails or press-on.
  • If you go full time, have acrylic nails put on your fingers and toes.
  • If you're dressing as a female, don't forget to shave. If you want to get waxed, make sure to do research and be commited to it because waxing hurts badly!
  • Post some pictures of the finish, have fun.
  • If you are big-boned, try Lane Bryant or Torrid's; they always have stylish and pretty clothes.
