In this lesson we will learn how to render Maya scenes directly from the command prompt. Rendering from the command line is an important method of rendering to learn. It means you don't have to boot up Maya or open the scene file. Opening scene files can be time consuming and waste computer RAM and if you don't need to use the file to render, why waste your time? Learn how to render unopened Maya files using the command line renderer instead - this tutorial will walk you through the process.

Command line "IS" the best method - but...just to be clear batch rendering from the software does not require you to keep Maya open and running. Once you batch render you can close down Maya and the batch process will continue to run until finished in the background of your system. You can check on it (and stop it) inside your Windows Task Managers Process tab. (ctrl/alt/del)
