Do you need to record from a web cam to send a video message to colleagues, friends or family, record a video presentation for work or school, or to upload and broadcast a video file over the Internet? This is a quick and easy way to record and send video captured from your web cam with Debut Video Capture software.

Step 1

Download Debut video Capture software from www.nchsoftware.com/capture - Debut's Home Page at NCH Software and click on the Download links found on the page. Debut can also be found on Download.com. Choose "Run" when asked whether you want to Run or Save the file. Click "I agree" to the End User License Agreements. Untick any "Related Software" suggestions on the next screen and click "Next".

Step 2

Debut will then automatically detect any video input sources (web cams). Then, if you wish to record sound with your video, the software will ask you to configure your audio settings. Once this is complete you will see the Debut main interface and you are nearly ready to start recording.

Step 3

Select the format you wish to record to. Debut allows you to record to the following formats: avi, wmv, asf, mpg, 3gp, mp4, mov and flv. You can also choose from various encoder setting for each format. If you choose to record to the MPEG4 (mpg4) format Debut features preset encoding options for portable devices such as iPods, PSPs, XBox 360 and more. If you are recording to burn to DVD choose .mpg (MPEG2) and the encoder settings will default to DVD quality. To change the encoding settings click the little icon next to the drop down box to open a settings dialogue.

Step 4

If you need to adjust the brightness and contrast click the little sun icon on the small tool bar (adjust video effects) and in this dialogue box you can also choose to add a text caption to the video.

Step 5

To select the output folder where your video will be saved to click on the Settings button on the main toolbar and then the Output tab in the settings dialogue box. Here you can set the destination folder and you can also adjust the output file name. Click OK when you are done. You are now ready to record!

Step 6

Click the Record button on the bottom left of the application, or you can use your keyboard to start recording using the F5 key.
