The holidays are rapidly approaching and it is almost time to bake. Sugar cookies are a great holiday cookie to bake to gifts or just for eating at home. In a large bowl add: 1 cup soften butter 1 ½ cups confectioner sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla extract ½ teaspoon almond extract 1 egg Beat with a mixer until ingredients are well mixed. In a second bowl add: 3 cups all purpose flour 1-teaspoon baking soda 1-teaspoon cream of tartar ¼ teaspoon salt Stir these ingredients just to combine them all together. Heat oven to 375 degrees In the larger bowl, slowly add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and beat on low with the mixer. Make sure you add a little flour at a time or flour will go everywhere. After you have added all of the flour to the mixture you will have your sugar cookie dough. Take half of the dough and wrap in plastic wrap . Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Lightly flour a flat surface so the dough doesn’t stick. Roll the dough with a rolling pin to a quarter inch thickness. Stick your cookie cutter into the flour and cut into the dough. Lay the cookie on a slightly greased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart. Continue cutting until the cookie sheet is full. Sprinkle the cookies with colored or granulated sugar. Put in the 375-degree oven and bake for 7-8 minutes or until the edges are light brown. Remove the cookies when done and put on a wire rack to cool.
