FAQ:

Q: Where did you get your monofin and how much did it cost?
A: I got my Finis Tempo monofin online for about $50. Try ebay or searching on google.

Q: How did you make your top?
A: I covered an old swimtop with material.

Q: How do you get the monofin in and out?
A: You can either leave the bottom open and extend your fabric a few inches past the monofin, or just roll up the monofin and work it in and out.

Q: What is the material called and where do you get it?
A: It is just swimwear/dance material. You can find it at craft stores that carry a variety of fabrics. It comes in all kinds of colors and designs. Mine happens to be a teal hologram material. Jo~Ann fabrics is where I go.

Q: How much is the material?
A: Depends on which material you want. At JoAnns it is $15 a yard and 2 yards will make a tail.

DISCLAIMER: Always use proper supervision when swimming with your tail. Swimming with the legs bound together is very dangerous and should only be attempted by trained persons.

Sasha ... if you can reply, i have ordered a mono fin and i am going to get fabric. but the fabric is dull and has no shine and I'm planning to sing on a log in a 47 degree spring and i want a realistic tail... do you recremend any online stores!!!!

from, a mermaid 11 year old :|

Ya know the outline of the pattern that you cut out (the whole bottom half- did you just cut it out like that???

LOL nevermind I didnt listen right haha

You can get bathing suit material (good to use when not stretchy) and lining at hancockfabrics. Ceak out their site. Its really cool! Cheap (like 8 a yd for the outside fabric and like 6 a yd for the lining.) Really, it has no shine but good for a first tail. Hope I helped!!

oh, ya u can w/o monofin... u can use reg. Flippers. (or u can cut and melt 2 flippers 2gether to make a monofin...(only done by creative ppl as i no of lol, i gave my dad the ideal and we r gonna try...)

i was just going to wright the same thing you can cut it out of an old plastic tub.

very cool.Coney Island,here I come...

you should stuff the tail with a fabric of some sort to make the tail look rounder. also when swimming try not to bend your knees to much bending your knees makes it less realistic. but pretty cool though

is it possible to make a swimmable mermaid tail without the monofin or flippers?

i dont think soo i am sorry

Well theoretically yeah, I mean, you can swim without having a tail at all, right? So you would still be able to swim without the fins. Only if you don't straighten the bottom of the tail it'll just flop around when you swim and not look right. If you could stiffen the fin in some way though, and make it stay straight against your feet so it doesn't flop all over the place, that would probably do.

Do you know any ways to stiffen the fin? Because i want to make the mermaid tail without the monofin....

You can foam and line the tail.

Could caulk work to stiffen up the fin??

i saw the video of you swimming in your tail before i saw this one and i foud this one by acsadent thanks bye the way i realy apriciate the video im going to make one

I was wondering if you needed a special sewing macine to sew nylon fabric or can I use my normal sewing macine which I use on normal non-streching fabrics? Thanks Sasha.
